QUESTION: I read in the News-Journal some residents at Buckner Westminster Place were helping some children in foster care. Where does the term Westminster Place come from? Excuse me for ending my sentence with a preposition. I should have said from where does it come.
ANSWER: I forgive you, in part because this is a good story.
Buckner Westminster Place opened in 1996, the result of a collaborative project by people who attended First Presbyterian and First Baptist churches in Longview, according to the Rev. Bill O性视界传媒橬eal, the now retired pastor of First Presbyterian.
O性视界传媒橬eal told me his church had become the beneficiary of a 性视界传媒渟izable estate性视界传媒 and a committee formed within the church, which included other community members outside First Presbyterian. The group decided to build an assisted living facility. The church used the estate donation to purchase land behind Longview Mall that eventually would be home to Buckner Westminster.
性视界传媒淲e found out that it was just too big a project for our small group,性视界传媒 O性视界传媒橬eal said.
The retirement facility was never a project of the two churches, just people from within the two congregations who had been wanting to make this kind of project happen. The group explored possible partnerships and selected Buckner International to build and run the facility. First Presbyterian Church donated the land for the project.
性视界传媒淭he only thing we insisted is they give the Presbyterians some credit, that was to put something in the name, which turned out to be Westminster,性视界传媒 O性视界传媒橬eal said.
Westminster Abbey in London was the location of a meeting hundreds of years ago where the guiding principles of the Presbyterian Church were decided.
性视界传媒(Buckner Westminster) is completely owned and operated by Buckner, and they included our name,性视界传媒 O性视界传媒橬eal said.
Q: Several years ago at the Great Texas Balloon Race, there was a Led Zeppelin cover band that performed. I性视界传媒檝e been wondering if you can find out what the name of that band was.
A: The Led Zeppelin tribute band No Quarter performed in 2008 at the Great Texas Balloon Race. (Just for the sake of history, that was the year after the only year the race has ever been rained out, as in cancelled.)
