Coulter: The NIMBY elite性视界传媒檚 insulated existence

Whenever liberty-minded people speak of 性视界传媒渢he elite性视界传媒 while expressing their distrust of government, large corporations, the media, and the incestuous relationship between the three, they性视界传媒檙e met with decreasing skepticism.

Public trust in American institutions is at an all-time low for good reasons. The most common is that the people elected, appointed or hired to positions of power and influence abuse both and create miserable conditions they expect the rest of us to tolerate. Meanwhile, the 性视界传媒渆xperts性视界传媒 who make the messes nurture bitter contempt for working-class people in an America that has become more divided by economics and values.

While too many dupes and true believers still gorge on media propaganda, a poll by The American Press Institute and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research reveals that eight in 10 Americans distrust the corporate press to report this year性视界传媒檚 elections honestly.

While such findings are predictable in our troubled times, another poll was a gut punch.

Scott Rasmussen has conducted national polls since 2003. In January, the outcome of one survey caused him to remark that it was the most terrifying result he had ever seen.

It was a product of previous surveys wherein respondents were asked about voting, elections, free speech, electric cars, gas stoves and other issues. Rasmussen noticed that the most radical responses came from a particular demographic: An elite subset who make more than $150,000 annually, live in densely populated areas, hold at least a graduate degree, and identify as politically liberal.

Within this subset was a smaller one whose members said they were 性视界传媒減olitically obsessed,性视界传媒 meaning they talked about politics daily.

This intrigued Rasmussen, so he created a poll for only the elite 1 percent demographic. The American Spectator性视界传媒檚 Scott McKay explained the data:

Seventy-three percent are Democrats; almost half (47 percent) favor Bernie Sanders-style socialism; 47 percent say there is 性视界传媒渢oo much freedom性视界传媒 in America; 35 percent say they性视界传媒檇 性视界传媒渞ather cheat than lose a close election.性视界传媒 That number doubles among the 性视界传媒減olitically obsessed性视界传媒; 71 percent have a favorable opinion of the media; 74 percent say they性视界传媒檙e better off financially than they were before COVID (only 20 percent of the rest of us say so); 67 percent say teachers and other educational professionals should decide what children are taught rather than letting parents do so; 77 percent would 性视界传媒渋mpose strict restrictions and rationing on the private use of gas, meat, and electricity性视界传媒; 72 percent would ban gas-powered vehicles; 69 percent would ban gas stoves; 53 percent would ban private air conditioning; and Joe Biden has an 84 percent approval rating.

After examining the figures, Rasmussen recognized a striking truth. That elite 1 percent represents extraordinary power and influence.

性视界传媒淚f you性视界传媒檙e thinking of who性视界传媒檚 shaping the mainstream media narrative, it性视界传媒檚 this group,性视界传媒 Rasmussen said.

Journalism used to be a blue-collar field that employed people from mainstream society. Today, cable network news and metropolitan newspaper executives belong to the elite 1 percent that is far out of touch with the majority of people who watch and read their content. Batya Ungar-Sargon性视界传媒檚 2021 book, 性视界传媒淏ad News: How Woke Media is Undermining Democracy,性视界传媒 makes the case that the news is produced by and for people within an elite clique. Journalists used to be called the 性视界传媒渨atchdogs of democracy.性视界传媒 Now, they seek to safeguard Democrats性视界传媒 power.

Another illustration of the wide ideological chasm between elite and mainstream America is the crisis of illegal immigration.

The Crime Prevention Research Center reports that 64 percent of likely voters describe the current situation with migrants at the border with Mexico as an 性视界传媒渋nvasion性视界传媒 of the United States, but the elite 1 percent are least likely to agree.

Yet, who suffers most from the mass influx of illegal immigrants? Hint: It性视界传媒檚 not the elite Not-In-My-Back-Yard (NIMBY) class that favors mass immigration if it takes place far away from their wealthy communities.

This phenomenon of a privileged elite holding fast to unworkable ideas that inflict the highest costs and worst outcomes on the lower classes is what author Ron Henderson calls 性视界传媒渓uxury beliefs.性视界传媒

The radical policies from Washington exemplify this elitist mindset. When policy is divorced from reality, regular people suffer soonest, hardest, and longest.

Meanwhile, the wealthy, credentialed elite remain safely insulated high above the crime, filth, despair, and death their less affluent countrymen endure daily.
