Abortion, if the rhetoric in the present political campaigns is any indication, is an issue that is not going away any time soon.
Though the regime established by Roe v. Wade (1973) was justly overturned by the constitutionally sound decision in Dobbs v. Jackson in 2022, the American people as a whole have not embraced a pro-life ethic. Polls suggest that a majority are uneasy with late-term abortions, but have little problem with those performed in the first two trimesters.
In the last election cycle, several states, including some dominated by Republicans, have enacted pro-abortion legislation. The 2024 Republican platform has pivoted away from its previously clear pro-life position, while Democrats have embraced no-holds-barred pro-abortion fanaticism.
Vice President Kamala Harris性视界传媒 decision, in March of this year, to make a public campaign stop at a Minnesota Planned Parenthood clinic speaks volumes about our current milieu. The legacy of Roe, and that of the sexual revolution in general, has done great damage to the national psyche. Complete individual autonomy, and an allergy to the very notion of unchosen obligations, thus trumps everything else.
Meanwhile, there have been numerous attacks launched against those who dissent from the culture of death. A recent campaign ad for Democrat U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, who aims to unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, highlights individuals who supposedly suffered as a result of 性视界传媒渁nti-abortion extremists.性视界传媒 A common theme has emerged on the left that state pro-life statutes are to blame for the victimization and even deaths of numerous women in states where unborn lives have some protection. But is this true?
Abortion advocates assert that pro-life laws make it impossible for women suffering from miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies to receive necessary help. This is simply false. All currently existing state pro-life laws make clear the differences between elective abortions on one hand, and miscarriages (性视界传媒渟pontaneous abortions性视界传媒) and ectopic pregnancies on the other.
To the extent that care in the latter cases is somehow being denied, this is the fault of the physicians and not the laws in question. Texas性视界传媒 law, for instance, explicitly states that 性视界传媒渁n act is not an abortion if the act is done with the intent to: (A) save the life or preserve the health of an unborn child; (B) remove a dead, unborn child whose death was caused by spontaneous abortion; or (C) remove an ectopic pregnancy.性视界传媒 Other states have similar provisions in their statutes.
These distinctions ought to be clear to all involved in addressing this issue, but unfortunately, misinformation abounds. But this is to be expected from those who lust for power and cultivate narcissism at the expense of the truth. We should bear these things in mind as we enter the voting booth this fall.
