EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - East Stroudsburg University student Julissa Turlington said she was attending a Halloween costume party on campus when gunshots were fired in the area of Zimbar Gym early Sunday morning.

"We ran outside because I think they said something like somebody had a gun or something, but we didn't hear any gunshots inside the gym," said Turlington.

Turlington said she did not hear anything until she got outside.

"Then when we got outside we heard like six shots going off," said Turlington.

An email sent out to students said several persons of interest had been detained and there is an ongoing investigation.

"It's pretty crazy," said Joey Carty, an East Stroudsburg University student.

Carty said he found out about shots being fired when his roommate told him about an email sent out.

"Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about it because I trust the police department here, but it's still kind of a concerning thought," said Carty.

"I feel safe on campus, but not at an event like that anymore. I'd probably stay home," said Turlington.

There is no word on if anyone was injured or on what may have led up to the shooting.

69 News has an interview scheduled with the East Stroudsburg University Interim Police Chief on Monday.
