FM 691 crash

DENISON, Texas (KTEN) ÐÔÊӽ紫ý” One person was killed and two others were hospitalized Monday morning after a crash involving an 18-wheeler in Denison.

Police said the big rig crossed into oncoming traffic on FM 691 just before 8 a.m. and collided with a Ford van just east of FM 1417.

The truck's ran off the road and into a ravine; its driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two people in the van were taken to the hospital but were expected to recover from their injuries.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Tony De La Cerda said the tragedy serves as a sober reminder to motorists. 

"Take the time to slow down. If your're driving, slow down, pay attention. Try to avoid any distractions like your cell phone," he said. "If you're tired, get some rest. If you decide to drink over the holidays, make sure you get a sober driver or call a taxi."

FM 691 was closed to traffic for more than eight hours after the accident.
