QUESTION: What性视界传媒檚 the story (history and current) behind the Budget Motel on West Marshall Avenue 性视界传媒 the one that looks like rows of tiny houses? I性视界传媒檝e never seen anything like it.
ANSWER: I love it when someone asks me a question that lets me spend time poking around our online archives. (The News-Journal no longer has an archive of print newspapers. Free trials are available to anyone who wants to use the archives at .)

It性视界传媒檚 there that I found some really interesting articles, with some great old photos of the cottage style motel rooms with A-frame roofs. I性视界传媒檝e attached several of those articles to the online version of this column.
Now, I haven性视界传媒檛 been able to track down all of the ownership changes over the years. The online appraisal district records usually have a lot of that information, but in this case, it seems there was an address change at some point, from 510 W. Marshall Ave. to 518 W. Marshall Ave. Maybe that has something to do with it.
First I found a newspaper article that published on July 6, 1949, announcing a formal opening of what was the new Jackson性视界传媒檚 Motel the next day on July 7. That article lists H.L. Jackson (called 性视界传媒淛ack性视界传媒) and Otis Reeves as owners and managers for the new 14-unit motel with rooms that featured 性视界传媒淪ealy steel furniture and 性视界传媒淏eauty Rest Mattresses.性视界传媒 I didn性视界传媒檛 find Reeves性视界传媒 name mentioned again in any of the other articles I found.

Jackson also owned a gas station on the corner there, and Jackson性视界传媒檚 Cafe was located on site as well. The July 6 article mentioned people could eat meals in their rooms from Jackson性视界传媒檚 Cafe or eat in the cafe. (In later articles, I saw that the restaurant was open 24 hours a day.)
In 1951, the motel celebrated the opening of a 14-unit addition.
Jackson unsuccessfully ran for city commission in 1954.
He also owned the Double J Angus Ranch and was active in Longview Little League Baseball and boys性视界传媒 football programs.
Jackson died Aug. 20, 1973, according to his obituary that published the day after his death. His wife was referred to as 性视界传媒淢rs. H.L. Jackson性视界传媒 in most of the stories I found. I learned her name was Katherine Jackson in property records after his death
I don性视界传媒檛 know a whole lot about the current owner, but I性视界传媒檓 still working on it. The owner is listed as Aanayana LLC.
