QUESTION: I moved to Longview from another city that had a program where volunteers helped the police department by patrolling the city too.

Does Longview have anything similar? I already have my concealed handgun license.

ANSWER: Longview does have a Citizen Police Academy as well as what性视界传媒檚 called Citizens on Patrol. The academy is part of the training for volunteers in Citizens on Patrol.

We性视界传媒檒l talk more about that in a minute, but I wanted to go ahead and tell you volunteers in the Citizens on Patrol are not allowed to carry guns while volunteering, according to Longview police spokesman LaDarian Brown.

Here性视界传媒檚 how the police department describes the program on its website, which is also where you can apply for the program: :

性视界传媒淭hese volunteers are called the Eyes and Ears for LPD because they provide an effective method of discouraging crime in the city. They accomplish this task by patrolling and reporting any criminal or suspicious activity to on-duty police officers. Volunteers never carry weapons, nor will they confront or chase suspicious persons. They are all equipped with police radios and can call in immediately if they see something occurring in their presence.性视界传媒

性视界传媒淲e offer various classes (Citizens on Patrol) throughout the year, however, this is typically determined by when we add new members to the program,性视界传媒 Brown said. 性视界传媒淥ne of our main forms of training is the Citizen Police Academy,性视界传媒 he said, adding that he doesn性视界传媒檛 know when the next one will take place.

The city of Longview established the Citizen Police Academy in 1991 to 性视界传媒渇amiliarize citizens with the operations of the police department.性视界传媒 Participants learn about patrol procedures, criminal law, narcotics, search and seizure, tactical operations, investigations and juvenile law

性视界传媒淪tudents also have the option性视界传媒 to ride with a patrol officer and witness the street activity our officers encounter on a day-to-day basis,性视界传媒 the website says.
