U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on Saturday told a Longview crowd that Democrats have created an illegal immigration crisis and that his Democratic opponent doesn性视界传媒檛 reflect the values East Texans hold dear.

Cruz spoke to a crowd of roughly 300 people Saturday during a campaign stop at Tia Juanita性视界传媒檚 Fish Camp on Marshall Avenue. The Republican is making dozens of stops on a bus tour across the Lone Star State as he vies for another term in the Senate.

With the election a month away, polls show the race has tightened against U.S. Rep. Colin Allred. Democrats are hoping an Allred victory can help them keep control of the Senate. But in Cruz性视界传媒檚 eyes, the Nov. 5 election is about more than control of Congress.

性视界传媒淭his isn性视界传媒檛 a battle between Republican and Democrat. It性视界传媒檚 not a battle between conservative and liberal. It性视界传媒檚 a battle between sane and crazy,性视界传媒� Cruz said. 性视界传媒淭hese people are nuts. Look, they can性视界传媒檛 figure out what is a woman. That didn性视界传媒檛 used to be a trick question.

Cruz criticizes Biden on borderThough Longview is 500 roughly miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, it might as well be a border city because of the immigration policies of the Biden administration, Cruz said. He claimed that the Biden administration is flying immigrants to cities around the nation, thought that assertion has been disputed by Democrats and news outlets.

The immigration crisis is exacting a sharp and painful toll on people who attempt to cross the border illegally. Women and children are being 性视界传媒渂rutalized性视界传媒� and sexually assaulted by human traffickers, Cruz said.

The drug cartels that control the flow of migrants often require them to pay thousands of dollars to get into the U.S. Those who can性视界传媒檛 afford to are punished: Their relatives are likely to be murdered, Cruz said. Some migrants turn to crime to pay the debt.

Thousands of young women are 性视界传媒渢rapped in sex slavery性视界传媒� under the control of cartels, Cruz said. Meanwhile, the flow of lethal Chinese fentanyl coming across the southern border continues to kill tens of thousands of Americans.

Cruz similarly derided the Biden administration性视界传媒檚 foreign policy. When the Biden administration took office, the world was peaceful and prosperous, Cruz said.

性视界传媒淭hey have screwed that up,性视界传媒� he said. 性视界传媒淲e now have the biggest war in Europe since World War II and the worst war in the Middle East. Every one of our enemies has gotten stronger, and America has never been in greater jeopardy than we are right now.性视界传媒�

Cruz: Allred opposed to border securityCruz lambasted Allred性视界传媒檚 liberal voting record, saying the congressman voted along with former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi 性视界传媒�100% of the time.性视界传媒�

性视界传媒淗e voted for open borders over and over and over again,性视界传媒� he said. 性视界传媒淗e性视界传媒檚 voted against the border wall once, twice, three separate times. If you think border security matters, he says you性视界传媒檙e a racist.性视界传媒�

Allred性视界传媒檚 position on the border wall seemingly has changed. In 2018, he called the border wall 性视界传媒渞acist性视界传媒� and said his generation would tear it down. But in an August interview with the News-Journal, he said 性视界传媒減hysical barriers性视界传媒� are part of the solution to the immigration crisis. He launched an advertising campaign in July that features a border wall and endorsements from law enforcement officers.

Cruz said those ads are intended to deceive voters.

Allred, however, has criticized Cruz for voting against a bipartisan border bill in February that would have increased funding for immigration workers. Republicans, especially former President Donald Trump, said the bill didn性视界传媒檛 do enough to secure the border.

Cruz also noted Allred性视界传媒檚 recent signing of a letter stating that the nation性视界传媒檚 military should pay for gender reassignment surgeries for service members, allow drag shows at military installations and allow LGBTQ+ flags to be flown.

性视界传媒淭hroughout history, American politics has been like a pendulum. One party gets in power, they go too far and too crazy one way, and the American people pull it back together,性视界传媒� Cruz said.

性视界传媒淧eople性视界传媒檚 eyes are opening up all over the place. They realize this doesn性视界传媒檛 make any sense. But I性视界传媒檒l tell you, Texas is a battleground. [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer has put a bull性视界传媒檚 eye on the state of Texas. He has been explicit. I am his No. 1 target in the entire country. Chuck Schumer and George Soros are going to spend $150 million trying to beat me in this race. They want Texas. Well, let me tell you, you can性视界传媒檛 have Texas.性视界传媒�

Cruz predicted that Republicans will regain control of the Senate, keep control of the House and that Trump will be reelected as president.

性视界传媒淲hen we win the White House and the Senate and the House, we will secure the border,性视界传媒� Cruz said. 性视界传媒淲e性视界传媒檙e going to cut your taxes, and we are going to end the war on small businesses and the war on oil and gas that性视界传媒檚 coming from Washington. We性视界传媒檙e going to stand with law enforcement, and we性视界传媒檙e going to throw the criminals in jail. We性视界传媒檙e going to end the war in Ukraine, and we性视界传媒檙e going to stand with Israel and utterly defeat Hamas. That性视界传媒檚 what the stakes are in this election.性视界传媒�

Supporters pleasedCruz性视界传媒檚 supporters at the Longview appeared to be mostly 50 and older. But among the crowd, three of the senator性视界传媒檚 youngest fans held up a hand-colored banner with a message for him: 性视界传媒淚 love you.性视界传媒�

Olivia Beard, 6, and her sister, Kate, 7, used Crayons to color those words on a piece of paper. They性视界传媒檇 watched an advertisement attacking Cruz性视界传媒檚 anti-abortion stance, and they asked their mom and dad what it meant.

性视界传媒淭hey came to mom and dad and said, 性视界传媒楬ey, you know they性视界传媒檙e saying Ted Cruz doesn性视界传媒檛 give women rights over their bodies,性视界传媒櫺允咏绱綕 father Jerry Beard said. 性视界传媒淎nd so we explained to them what they were speaking about. That性视界传媒檚 where we really got started.性视界传媒�

性视界传媒淲e want to protect Ted Cruz,性视界传媒� Olivia Beard said.

Don Wade said he believed Cruz has the right stances on the issues he spoke about, including his opposition to gender reassignment and his opposition to allowing biological men to compete in women性视界传媒檚 sports.

性视界传媒淭here ain性视界传媒檛 no brainwashing kids that God did something wrong. He didn性视界传媒檛 make a mistake. They don性视界传媒檛 need to change their gender,性视界传媒� Wade said.

Wade said he性视界传媒檚 hopeful Cruz and Republicans up and down the ballot will win, 性视界传媒渂ut I性视界传媒檓 scared to death of the Democratic Party and what they will do to twist everything.性视界传媒�

Cruz, Allred to debate Oct. 15Cruz and Allred will face off in a televised debate at 7 p.m. Oct. 15. People in East Texas will be able to watch it on CBS 19 and on the station性视界传媒檚 website.

Cruz said he looks forward to the debate, which will give voters a chance to see the difference between him and Allred. While Cruz said he has fought for Texans性视界传媒� religious liberty, free speech and gun rights, Allred has opposed those values and more.

性视界传媒淚 am leading the fight against all of the terrible policies [Democrats are] trying to ram through that are hurting the people of Texas,性视界传媒� Cruz said. 性视界传媒淭hey want to destroy jobs in Texas oil and gas and energy. I性视界传媒檓 leading the fight to support the men and women of law enforcement. They want to defund law enforcement, and so this is a real battle, but we性视界传媒檙e going to win.性视界传媒�
