There性视界传媒檚 a new constable in town 性视界传媒 sort of.
On Wednesday, Danny Craig II took the oath of office once again to become the Gregg County Pct. 4 constable. This time, he said he性视界传媒檚 looking forward to becoming more involved in the community.
性视界传媒淚t feels great,性视界传媒 he said of his return to the office. 性视界传媒淚性视界传媒檓 still trying to get back in the groove of it, and so I性视界传媒檓 excited.性视界传媒
Craig, 36, previously served as constable from 2017 to 2021. He was succeeded by Daryl Gregg, whom he bested in the March primary. He didn性视界传媒檛 face a challenger in November.
The Pct. 4 constable性视界传媒檚 office was the only contested county-level office on the ballot in Gregg County.
Craig began his law enforcement career with the Gregg County Sheriff性视界传媒檚 Office in 2007. He worked for the Carthage Police Department from 2009 to 2011 before returning to the sheriff性视界传媒檚 office, where he remained until he became constable in 2017.
Craig resigned the constable性视界传媒檚 position to return to the sheriff性视界传媒檚 office in 2021, but he knew he性视界传媒檇 made a mistake, he previously told the News-Journal. His heart was for serving people in Pct. 4 as constable. (He still has a good relationship with the sheriff性视界传媒檚 office, he said.)
Gregg was born, raised and spent almost all of his life in Pct. 4, which includes South Longview. His father, Danny Craig Sr., is the Pct 4 commissioner and was a law enforcement officer, too.
性视界传媒淧robably ever since I was 5, I性视界传媒檝e always wanted to be in law enforcement,性视界传媒 Craig said. 性视界传媒淚t性视界传媒檚 always been in me. I enjoy it. Something性视界传媒檚 different every day.性视界传媒
He also credits the long-running TV show 性视界传媒淐ops性视界传媒 with inspiring him to bear the badge.
性视界传媒淚 grew up watching 性视界传媒楥ops,性视界传媒櫺允咏绱綕 he said. 性视界传媒淚 wouldn性视界传媒檛 miss a day of 性视界传媒楥ops.性视界传媒櫺允咏绱綕
Craig said he hopes to use his position to help people. As constable, he has dual roles: He性视界传媒檚 a full-fledged law enforcement officer with the power to arrest lawbreakers, write traffic tickets and everything else that a police officer or sheriff性视界传媒檚 deputy can do. He性视界传媒檚 also in charge of handing civil matters such as evictions, and he serves as the bailiff in the Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace court.
Evicting people from properties is a tough job. But he has opportunities to show folks a little mercy and kindness. If a tenant needs an extra day to remove his or her possessions from a property, that性视界传媒檚 something Craig is willing to work out with the landlord 性视界传媒 provided that the tenant doesn性视界传媒檛 abuse the opportunity, Craig said.
性视界传媒淭he constable will go out and oversee and keep the peace while the landlord is putting the tenant性视界传媒檚 property out on the curb,性视界传媒 Craig said. 性视界传媒淚 try to work with the people and the tenants because, of course, that性视界传媒檚 hard on people.性视界传媒
Craig hopes to get involved with more community events and help organize them, he said.
性视界传媒淚 like people,性视界传媒 Craig said. 性视界传媒淢y first time in office, that really brought me out of my shell.性视界传媒
He also hopes to be the type of law enforcement officer that younger people can relate to and trust 性视界传媒 to let them know that 性视界传媒減olice officers aren性视界传媒檛 bad. They性视界传媒檙e here to help.性视界传媒
性视界传媒淚 never want anyone to be afraid of law enforcement,性视界传媒 he said.
