Home may be where the heart is, but the heart still needs a home. And thanks to the Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity, another Longview family soon will have a place to call their own.
On Wednesday, leaders of the nonprofit organization joined community members and the Murphy family 性视界传媒 Cody, LaTamara and their boys 性视界传媒 to break ground for construction of the family性视界传媒檚 new home.
性视界传媒淲e性视界传媒檙e not just breaking ground on a house,性视界传媒 said LaJuan Gordon, CEO of Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity. 性视界传媒淲e性视界传媒檙e breaking down the barriers that have prevented opportunities, and we性视界传媒檙e breaking barriers that have prevented individuals from pursuing their dreams of a better life for many years.性视界传媒

Habitat for Humanity is known nationwide for building homes for low-income families and selling them to the families by using interest-free mortgages. The organization also funds home repairs that homeowners can性视界传媒檛 afford through its critical home repair program.
The Murphy family性视界传媒檚 dwelling will be the 114th home that Habitat for Humanity has built in Gregg and Harrison counties, Gordon said. In about six months, their four-bedroom, two-bathroom home will be completed. The property was provided by the city of Longview.
Cody and LaTamara Murphy were high school sweethearts, and they started their family 16 years ago when they had their first son, DaKalynn. Then came Dacoda, 11, and Kaleb, 7.
For years, the family worked hard to make ends meet, taking better jobs and getting pay raises 性视界传媒 only to have their gains gobbled up by ever-increasing rent, Gordon said. Home ownership, however, breaks that cycle and lets a family build generational wealth 性视界传媒 helping them find financial stability.
性视界传媒淥ur whole purpose is to help a family step forward into their dreams and make their dreams a reality and to be successful and live the life that they want to live for years and years to come,性视界传媒 Gordon said.

Home ownership provides other kinds of stability, too. Cody Murphy told Gordon that owning a home will give his boys a more stable home life, which will help them grow as people.
The family has been looking to buy a home for four years, Cody Murphy said. They were looking into buying a trailer, but they decided against it. Then they learned about Habitat for Humanity. They applied for the program, and from there, the process moved quickly.
性视界传媒淚t almost still feels unreal,性视界传媒 he said after the groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday. He and his family wore white hard-hats as they stuck shovels into the ground to turn over dirt on the lot. (Naturally, the boys kept digging after the ceremony was over.)
While volunteers and contractors play a large part in building Habitat for Humanity homes, the homebuyers must put in their own 性视界传媒渟weat equity,性视界传媒 too: at least 250 hours helping build their home and the homes of other homebuyers, according to the organization. Homebuyers also must go through the program性视界传媒檚 性视界传媒渉omeowner college,性视界传媒 which gives them financial literacy skills and teaches them about being a good neighbor, Gordon said.

性视界传媒淵ou may think that Habitat homes are built with wood and nails and paint, and they are,性视界传媒 she said. 性视界传媒淏ut what really makes sure that a sound, beautiful home gets built is that there is love, sweat and a deep belief and support from our community.性视界传媒
District 2 Councilwoman Shannon Moore welcomed the Murphy family to the district.
性视界传媒淭he Habitat for Humanity program is so important for home ownership,性视界传媒 she said. 性视界传媒淪o, this is just the beginning, and I promise you, it only goes up from here.性视界传媒
