Letter: A creed to heed

A creed to heed

In our social media age, I have noticed a trend that many people utter in a manner to be comforting to a deceased person性视界传媒檚 family or friends. That slang term is 性视界传媒渉appy heavenly birthday.性视界传媒

I have to admit that I性视界传媒檝e been guilty of using this inappropriate phrase on Facebook and elsewhere. I guess it is shorthand for 性视界传媒渞emembering your passing this earthly life.性视界传媒

I think it helps ease the conscience of the person writing. However, I am more comforted by the creed that nearly all mainstream Christians profess including the Roman Catholic, Anglican (which includes Methodists and others). It is 性视界传媒渢he Nicene Creed性视界传媒 and similar shorter 性视界传媒樞允咏绱綑Apostles Creed,性视界传媒 first adopted at the Council of Nicaea in the year 325 A.D.

The most relevant excerpts: 性视界传媒淚 believe in one God, the Father almighty...性视界传媒 His son Jesus 性视界传媒渨ill come again in glory to judge the living and the dead...性视界传媒

If a person heeds this creed, it only makes sense that the dead will have their body and soul rest peacefully, and that Jesus will judge the living and the dead simultaneously.

While no human knows for sure, I have faith in the Nicene Creed and Apostles Creed. The dead are yet to be judged.
