The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 19 measles cases "isolated at one location" in Upshur County.

Upshur County Judge Todd Tefteller said in a statement Thursday that all cases are linked to two people who visited the location from out of state, and no known cases originated from an Upshur County resident.

Tefteller said a report this week of a measles patient visiting the emergency room at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview is one of the 19 cases.

He did not identify the location in Upshur County where the patients are isolated.

"All affected persons are isolated from the public and are in quarantine at this same location and are in daily contact with (Department of State Health Services) and are following all the appropriate guidelines," Tefteller said.

He added that none of the cases are critical, none have required hospitalization and all patients are older than 17.

"There are no reports of measles in any of our Upshur County public schools, public buildings, county operations or medical facilities, Tefteller said. "I have been assured by state officials that any risk of further spread is minimal and that they are monitoring the situation daily.
